Re: History of the Battery Shop, established in 1972

If you are looking for experience and know-how in quality you have come to the right place.

During July, 1972 Grady Lynn formed the first Battery Shop Inc. The mission was to PMA all aircraft emergency batteries and temperature sensors for nickel cadmium batteries on the market.  The Battery Shop successfully acquired FAA-PMAs for almost all of the nickel cadmium, lead acid, emergency battery packs and temperature sensors that were approved from 1972 until 1986.  Grady Lynn sold the Battery Shop to Van Duesen in 1986.  Van Duesen later sold to Ryder-Aviall.

Aviall then spun-off from Ryder, became Aviall, Inc., and is currently owned by Boeing.

In 1994 Grady Lynn formed a second PMA company, Aero Design, Inc. & Battery Shop LLc. Aero Design was the division that acquired and held the PMAs, and Battery Shop was the division that sold the PMA parts and also held the FAA-approved repair station certificate.  Aero Design was very successful in obtaining several hundred PMAs for most of the known main ship batteries, emergency battery packs and temperature sensors.  Aero Design/Battery Shop was sold to Heico Inc in approximately 2000.

In November of 2007 Grady Lynn formed a third company, Aircraft Battery Shop LLc.  Aircraft Battery Shop is currently obtaining exactly the same PMAs for emergency batteries and temperature sensors as the first and second companies, as well as new product development.

Aircraft Battery Shop is a young company, but its personnel’s expertise has been around since 1972.  The staff’s experience level is second to none.

Grady Lynn is the founder and entrepreneur of all three of these businesses.  He has been in this industry since July 1972, about 36 years, and was a corporate pilot prior to starting the battery shops.  He is directly responsible for acquiring DOT exemptions and exceptions that significantly reduced Haz-Mat freight costs to our customers. Grady is well known for his quality, ethics and honesty in the aviation industry.

Sandy Witbeck joined Ryder-Aviall in 1986, Aero Design in 2000 and is now part of Aircraft Battery Shop - about 22 years in the industry.  Sandy has earned a FAA-DAR and has a very high quality standard.  Sandy is the company’s principal liaison working with the FAA to obtain the PMAs.  When employed by Aviall, she was an FAA-DMIR as well as an FAA Repairman under Part 145 and held Haz-Mat certification. She was Shop Supervisor, then Operations Manager and then became their Battery Shop Manager in Dallas, TX.  When she was employed by Aero Design Sandy was the Director of Operations and FAA-DMIR as well as an FAA Repairman under Part 145 and held Haz-Material certification.

Gary Olsen joined Aero Design Inc. in 1995 and was responsible for engineering and Quality Assurance.  Gary was a FAA-DMIR, held a FAA Part 145 Repairman Certification (Chief Inspector) and was also Haz-Mat certified. Other significant background to Gary’s credit is that he retired from the US Air Force after 21 years of service, has a very strong electronics background, has a master’s degree, and is currently adjunct instructor at a major university.

Mark Ripp joined Aero Design in 1995 and was the Production Manager, and held a FAA Part 145 Repairman Certification (Chief Inspector).  Mark was also Haz-Mat certified. Other significant background to Mark’s credit is that he is retired US Army with 20 years of service.  Mark has a very strong electronics background, was an instructor and repaired missile systems.

In total, Aircraft Battery Shop has a combined experience of 100+ years building the same FAA-PMA products, emergency batteries and temperature sensors. NO OTHER COMPANY CAN MATCH THIS CLAIM.  We are all well versed and experienced in all facets of the nickel cadmium battery chemistry and the FAA requirements.  We are all very experienced in the production, hands on, as well as any other requirements of this industry.

Aircraft Battery Shop LLc is ISO 9001: 2000 certified, and we will be AS-9100 certified in the very near future.

The Aircraft Battery Shop would like to thank you for your time and especially for the opportunity to do business with your company.  We are looking forward to an equally beneficial relationship.

Sincerely,

The Aircraft Battery Shop Team
